概要 This class will look at American society and culture in the 20th century. We will examine immigration, the rise of consumer culture, World Wars One and Two, the Great Depression, the Cold War and the rise of American empire.
科目の到達目標 To understand the complex forces at work in America during the superpower period.
受講要件 English speaking, reading and writing ability at a graduate level.
事前・事後学修の内容 Please read the assigned reading before each class so that you can participate in a discussion of the topic and issues raised in the reading.

3. The Robber Baron Era, Westward Expansion and Populism (3 weeks)
4. Immigration and the Trade Union Movement (2 weeks)
5. The Era of Progressive Reforms (2 weeks)
6. World War One (2 weeks)
7. Internal Migration and the Emergence of Modern Urban America (1 week)
8. The Roaring Twenties (1 week)
9. The Great Depression (1 week)
10. World War Two (1 week)

担当者プロフィール Robert Jacobs is an American historian of science and technology and nuclear war and peace. He received his PhD at the University of Illinois. He is the author of the book The Dragon’s Tail, and is the editor of the book, Filling the Hole in the Nuclear Future.
