講義の目的 This class is dedicated to learning about North American culture. In particular, we will consider America's multiculturalism and its relationship with other parts of the world. Lessons will explore America's cultural diversity as well as how history and intercultural encounters impact contemporary society. Lessons will mix readings and discussion in English with viewing films about/by Americans. Of particular interest will be the ways notions of ethnicity, race, social class, the environment, and gender and sexuality shape the meaning of a text.
到達目標 To gain a better understanding of contemporary American literature, history, society, and culture by exploring the theme of "Americans Abroad."

事前・事後学修 Pre-class readings, miscellaneous homework, in-class exercises, and a minimum of 3 response papers (two-page double-spaced) will be assigned.

担当者プロフィール Michael Gorman earned his PhD in American literature and culture from the University of Tulsa and is especially interested in rural American culture, transnationalism, and the environment.
