講義の目的 The specific subject of study will vary depending on the student interest and the instructor's specialty. The course will be interdisciplinary and methods will be eclectic, but generally touching on the following topics: American Cultural Studies, American Literature, Literature and the Environment, Rural American Culture, American Film, American History
到達目標 The goal will be to conduct research and write a chapter-length paper on a topic relating to the instructor's specialty in American Culture, Literature, and the environment.
受講要件 Admission to the PhD program, demonstrated English writing and reading proficiency, and a background in the subject area.

事前・事後学修 There will be substantial reading and writing between every meeting.
講義内容 The schedule, materials, and relevant critical approaches will be determined after consultation between the student and instructor.
期末試験実施の有無 実施しない
評価方法・基準 Evaluation will be based on weekly discussion, progress, and quality of research and writing. Weekly meetings are expected.
教科書等 Texts and readings will be determined after consultation, but could include texts such as Rob Nixon's *Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor*, Rachel Carson's *Silent Spring*, and Ash Davidson's *Damnation Spring*.
担当者プロフィール Mike Gorman earned his PhD in American Literature and Culture from the University of Tulsa and is especially interested in ways literature connects with rural American civilization, transnationalism, and the environment.
