講義の目的 | We can study, in this lecture, approaches to the design and development of new industrial products, learning the fundamentals of design, and discuss the issues of state-of-the-art computer-aided design (CAD) and integrated development environment (IDE). | ||
到達目標 | The objective of this lecture is to study methods of design and development of products, especially based on information and communication technology (ICT) such as information appliance, and consequently have a capability to design and develop user-centered products (not just industrial ones). | ||

Students reflects acquisitions by this lecture to their own research activities. (60minutes/week) Students make discussion and presentation slides with their group members. (3hours in total) |

Lecture style: Lecture in English. 1. Introduction -- What is design? 2. Product life cycle 3. Development process models -- Water-flow, V, Spiral and Agile. 4. User requirements specification 5. Group work (1) Market research and target product setting 6. User experience (UX) and user-centered design (UCD) 7. User story mapping 8. Group work (2) Progress report and discussion 9. Design for X (DfX) 10. System requirements definition 11. Group work (3) System requirements definition 12. Group work (4) Presentation and discussion (1) 13. Group work (5) Presentation and discussion (2) 14. Role of computer-aided design (CAD) and integrated development environment (IDE) 15. Conclusion Note: The order of the above contents may be changed. According to the students' language skills, part of the lecture will be given in Japanese. |

Evaluated with discussions (25%), presentations (25%) in the classes and reports (50%) as: C: Learning the fundamentals of design and development process models, B: Learning the importance of user-centered design and having the capability of designing an industrial product according to users' requirements, A: Having the capability of applying the learned design and development processes to practical issues, and S: Having the capability of devising CAD and IDE systems for user-centered design. |
